South Korea SamSung consider investing $1 billion to build a semiconductor factory in Philippines

South Korea's Samsung Electronics is considering investing $1 billion in Philippines, the construction of a semiconductor factory, Samsung is likely to invest in the construction of a back-end chip packaging test plant.

Comprehensive foreign reports, South Korea's Samsung Electronics is considering investing $1 billion in Philippines, the construction of a semiconductor factory. It is unclear which factories of Samsung Electronics is the front-end semiconductor manufacturing process (chip manufacturing) or back-end processes (packaging and testing), but many industry insiders believe that the Samsung investment, is likely to be a chip packaging and testing plant back.

Over the past few years, Philippines has been the major giants of the chip packaging and testing plant to build a hot spot, but the country is now losing the competitiveness of investment in China, Vietnam and other countries. The main problem is the rising labor costs in Philippines, power supply is also a problem. Despite years of negotiations, the Philippines government has not yet attracted a giant to invest in the construction of a chip manufacturing plant.

It is understood that Intel plans to reduce the size of the package test plant in the country, which is not a small blow to the semiconductor industry in Philippines.
