South Korea announced in 2014 to permanently stop the import and manufacture of incandescent lamps

South Korea's Ministry of industry and trade, 16, announced that since Ming (2014) in January 1st of the year the country will permanently stop imports, the manufacture of low efficiency incandescent bulbs (incandescent light).

Yonhap News Agency (Yonhap) reported that the Ministry of commerce industry pointed out that the power consumption of incandescent lamp is six times of LED lighting, an incandescent bulb, the annual electricity purchase costs may be up to 15863 won ($14.14). In contrast, the cost of every single LED bulb is reduced by 82.3% to 2813 won. South Korea made a decision to phase out incandescent bulbs as early as 2008.

Ministry of commerce industry said that at present there are still about 30 million of South Korea is still in the use of incandescent bulbs, if the full replacement for more energy-efficient lighting, a year can save more than 1800 GW (one billion watts) of power, enough to supply up to 650000 households required.

About 99% of incandescent bulbs in South Korea's about 8000 public buildings have been replaced. At present, only one manufacturer in South Korea is still producing incandescent bulbs, and most are imported from mainland china.
