SpatiaLight and Foreal Spectrum will cooperate in the development of LED LCoS light engine

February 7, 2007, SpatiaLight (Ultra HD LCoS micro display manufacturer) and Foreal Spectrum (LED light engine and module manufacturers) signed MOU (memorandum of understanding), the two California companies will jointly develop and sell for 1920 x 1080p LCoS (liquid crystal on silicon) LED light engine, rear target TV (RPTV) and OEM projector market.

The optical engine using SpatiaLight T-3, 1920 x 1080p imager, and the use of LED instead of high-pressure mercury lamp as light source, to solve the problem of the lamp life, is a major breakthrough in LCoS technology. The use of the new LED light engine can also reduce the thickness of the LCoS RPTV, such as the thickness of 60 inches RPTV in the near future is expected to be less than 10 inches.

SpatiaLight said LED LCoS light engine in terms of life, reliability, size, weight and power consumption has a great advantage, and believe that these advantages will increase its share in the large size rear projection TV market.

Foreal Spectrum says its patent pending design eliminates many of the constraints, and successfully solves the basic problems of external quantum efficiency, electronic control, heat dissipation. Foreal provides integrated services from the overall design to all independent components (including coating, optics, electronics, heat dissipation, structure, etc.), which can be integrated and packaged for end customer applications.
