TM-30 defect or be replaced by IES:CRI

September 30th, the North American Lighting Engineering Association (IES) issued a formal statement to respond to the industry on the IES method is not a standard question.

IES believes that the current evaluation of the color rendering of the international lighting Commission (CIE) CRI (Color Rendering Index) defects, can not fully express the human perception of color.

IESTM30-15 (evaluation of the color rendering of the IES method), is an important step in solving this problem, which in several ways to create value for the lighting industry:

A, more accurate faithful color evaluation;

Supplementary evaluation of B and color preference;

C, special color display more details.

IES stated that, like any other IES technical memorandum, TM-30-15 is not a mandatory standard and cannot be used as a guideline or standard for best practice. However, the release of TM-30-15 allows the international lighting organization to pay more attention to the color quality standards and provide a way to improve standards. Technical analysis and evaluation feedback indicate that the method described by TM-30 is significant.

IES acknowledges that IES will not recognize any mandatory color display measurements before the new internationally agreed standards for color quality assessment are introduced.

At the same time, the International Commission on illumination (CIE) believes that CRI is not accurate in the evaluation of several important color samples, should be replaced by improved test samples and more widely accepted rules. CIETC1-90 has been studied to improve the ability to replace the CRI color rendering evaluation method.
