According to PIDA, with the flat panel display (FPD) market continues to grow, the solar photoelectric rise, high brightness white LED applications expand, promotion and application of technology of photoelectric diversification and other factors, in 2007 the global photovoltaic market value of about $378 billion, up 14%. Taiwan photoelectric output accounted for about 17% of the global market; including LED packaging, TFT LCD materials and components, TFT LCD panel, scanner, digital camera (OEM), information CD-ROM, optical disc and optical lens and other optoelectronic products in the world share for the top three.

PIDA industry and Technology Group Manager Lin Yingyi said: "Taiwan optoelectronics industry after years of 04-06 growth slowed, benefited from the first half FPD growth in 2007 to last year, the overall market growth has reached 30% photoelectric; expected this year Taiwan photoelectric output value is expected to reach 2 trillion and 400 billion dollars, the growth rate is more than 15%. On the application side, LED, solar cells, monitors, etc. are the hot industry in the field of optoelectronics. Among them, the flat panel display is still the highest proportion (76%) in the field of Taiwan optoelectronic industry. PIDA pointed out that in 2007 the Taiwan TFT LCD panel manufacturing and module packaging (excluding key equipment and components) output value of 1 trillion yuan, accounting for the global TFT panel and module package of 42%, for the first time in more than a quarter of South Korea's $39%.
