Market existing light emitting diode (LED) lamp energy saving and high brightness, but the price is expensive. Cassell University in Germany to participate in the study of nano structured semiconductor lighting project is using a computer model to optimize the light-emitting structure of LED, is expected in a few years after the introduction of low price and high brightness of the new LED lamp. LED technology is currently mainly used in the production of automobile tail lights, traffic lights and display for indoor lighting, the cost is too high, the equivalent of a 60 watt incandescent lamp illumination LED lamp brightness in Europe the price is about 30 euros. The main reason is that the production of LED lamps commonly used sapphire substrate and gallium nitride epitaxial layer is expensive, light-emitting area is limited. Cassell recently issued a press release said, European researchers project nanostructured semiconductor lighting research is developing a new process using the silicon substrate with low cost to replace the sapphire substrate, and then let the complex nanometer diameter six prism column about 100 nm and about 3000 nm high growth on silicon substrates. Compared with the traditional technology, new technology in the same space can produce a larger, more compact light-emitting surface. Cassell contributed to this project is mainly used in computer structure optimization model six prism luminous crystal column, and the semiconductor crystal column can emit green, blue and red light. Through the combination of these lights, LED can emit white light. In order to obtain white light source, the previous process needs to be coated with fluorescent layer on the surface of LED. Professor Vee Chihi Man University of Cassell said, the new LED light from basic research to mature products still need to overcome several technical barriers. Researchers hope to launch the first demo sample by the end of 2012. This super LED lights officially put into operation is expected to be at least 5 years.
