The rapid growth of China's LED imports and exports

According to the analysis, the customs statistical data of 2004~2007, China's LED exports increased year by year, exports from 12 billion 200 million in 2004, rose to 31 billion 200 million in 2007, the annual compound growth rate of 36.7%; export amount from 590 million yuan in 2004, an increase of 2 billion 30 million yuan in 2007, a CAGR of 51%. In the first half of 2008, exports of LED257 billion, exports amounted to $1 billion 270 million. It is expected that in 2008 the annual export volume of 40 billion 600 million, exports amounted to $2 billion 760 million, an increase of 30% and last year, respectively, and 27.6%.

Due to the rapid growth of exports of LED products in China, in recent years to promote the national semiconductor lighting project ", formed a national semiconductor lighting project industrialization base in Shanghai, Dalian, Nanchang, Xiamen and Shenzhen, the development of enterprises, especially the rapid extension of chip scale packaging companies continue to maintain rapid growth, lighting application great progress. In the rapid growth of the industrial scale at the same time, the domestic industrial structure has been greatly improved, gradually increase the share of high-end products, such as display chip, SMD and large package of products, lamps and other lighting products have obvious progress. In addition, a large number of Taiwan LED industry to the mainland of China, but also to improve the capacity of mainland China LED greatly. According to the national semiconductor lighting engineering research and development and Industry Alliance reported that in 2007 China's LED production has reached 82 billion, chip production of up to 38 billion. According to the export price projections, LED total sales reached $3 billion 10 million, an increase of about 25.0.%, exports accounted for 67.4% of total sales.

At the same time, China's LED imports also increased year by year, imports from 14 billion 800 million in 2004, rose to 40 billion 100 million in 2007, the annual compound growth rate of 39.4%; imports from 1 billion 630 million yuan in 2004, an increase of 3 billion 10 million yuan in 2007, a CAGR of 22.7%. The first half of 2008, has imported LED219 billion, the amount of imports amounted to $1 billion 760 million. It is expected that in 2008 the annual import volume of 48 billion 900 million, imports amounted to $3 billion 970 million, compared with last year, an increase of 22% and 32% (see Figure 2). From the comparison of the amount of import and export, imports in recent years has been greater than the export volume of 50~90 million; from the import and export amount, the amount of imports has been greater than the export amount of 8~12 billion dollars, is also showing a rising trend (see Figure 1, 2). Although the yield of LED in China has been greatly increased, but the production of LED chip, wafer production is still limited, its products with low grade based, industry scale is small, can only meet the needs of domestic packaging companies, amount of 20%~30%, most of the high performance LED and power LED products have to be imported.
