Toshiba SanDisk build a new factory to improve the yield of NAND flash

On the basis of the establishment of the existing manufacturing factory Toshiba manufacturing plant will be located in Yokkaichi in the company, the factory will manufacture 300 mm NAND flash chip. Toshiba Co's American partner, SanDisk, will also invest in the manufacturing facility.

NAND flash memory chips are widely used in mobile and digital consumer products, such as MP3 music player.

Toshiba Co and SanDisk said in a joint statement that they will begin construction of the manufacturing plant in August of this year, and plans to start production in the fourth quarter of next year.

Toshiba Co will provide funds for the construction of the manufacturing plant. Through the Toshiba Co and SanDisk company will purchase equipment for the manufacturing plant.

The two companies did not disclose how much money invested in the manufacturing plant. But stakeholders estimate that the manufacturing plant will cost about $5 billion 100 million to the two companies.

Recently, a Japanese media reports, Toshiba Co's manufacturing plant will eventually be able to produce 100 thousand units per month 300 mm wafer.

According to the media reports, Toshiba Co is currently capable of producing 30 thousand units per month 300 mm wafers and 107 thousand and 500 units of 200 mm wafers.

According to a report from the U.S. market research firm iSuppli, the global NAND flash memory chip market grew by 64% last year, reaching $10 billion 800 million. Toshiba Co which occupy 21.9% of the global NAND flash memory chip market, while its rival Samsung electronics company accounted for a market share of 52.9%.
