Toshiba uses new surface technology to improve the brightness of LED

According to Nikkei net reports Toshiba Co has developed a surface treatment technology can greatly improve the brightness of LED, the method used is to increase the surface of nano size Toshiba Co raised to LED to improve the light output.

The first step in this process is to apply a layer of liquid glass on the surface of the LED. And then covered with a layer of polymer on the surface of glass by polystyrene and poly methyl methacrylate.

When the polymer is heated to 200 degrees Celsius, the formation of polystyrene spheres. Then the use of plasma, remove the organic glass on the surface, leaving only spherical polystyrene, and then use the ion etching technique to remove without cover glass and semiconductor substrate, finally formed with the surface of LED 450-500nm high, apart 150-200nm projections.

Toshiba Co said that the process is based on the molecular self-organization process cheaper than photolithography, and has been tested on red light LED and believe that this technology is also effective to improve the brightness of white LED.
