U.S. patent license LED lighting can be detected in the indoor character dynamic

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute of the lighting system and application system (LESA) and the Boston University graduate has recently won a patent license, called by inductive lighting system and method of forming by light space (Sensory Lighting System and Method for Characterizing and Illumination Space)".

According to the Patent Description, LED lighting system does not need a camera in the space, to detect the presence of indoor light, the way people exist, can determine the details of the location, posture, thereby preserving the privacy of the object under investigation.

The inventor, but also the lighting system and application department director Robert Karlicek said: "all the light to the space optics' fingerprint ', if there is any object moving in space, light distribution and light color will not change. As long as the use of a small number of inexpensive sensors, mounted on the ceiling we can measure the optical changes in any space, determine the timing and manner of light. "

All light is illuminated by a 'fingerprint' of light, and if nothing is moving in space, the light distribution and light color will not change. This patented privacy protection method is called "light travel time (time-of-flight, ToF) sensing". The ToF sensor uses the light to be sent back and forth in a reasonable and accurate distance to form the interior surface of the space, and to specify the location and height of other objects in the character and space (the characters are sitting and standing).

"Imagine a building management system of health medical institutions, office space, retail stores, warehouse, library or airport, this system uses the position for the activities of the interiors of buildings on top of. This kind of information is usually used to improve the energy efficiency of the building, to enhance security and to provide a more comfortable environment. Compared with other existing technologies, the patent licensing technology will be more efficient and accurate. "

Karlicek also stressed that this technology can be used to retain the user's privacy is very suitable for use in all environments, without the use of the camera, the personal information will not be leaked and will not be recognized.

But the most important thing is that most of the buildings are equipped with lighting systems, once the LED lighting system, this technology can save more costs for existing infrastructure.

Machine vision experts, but also the patent of the public inventor Richard Radke said: ToF sensing system in the Internet of things is a very attractive application of intelligent sensing technology. This technology uses a very favorable indoor lighting as well as the space of individual clothing. Sensors are becoming more and more expensive. We are very pleased to see this technology combined with a higher level of perception, the ability to interpret and respond to the user in the space.

To further develop this new technology, LESA has created two prototype experimental space wisdom conference room, in the color of the column; wisdom hospital room is located in University of New Mexico. These two experimental space will be used to enhance the LED lighting to a new level of benefits, and the use of the characteristics of light lamps.

Ultimately, the goal of LESA is to integrate ToF sensors and other low-cost sensing technologies, control software, and machine learning capabilities to LED lamps.

LESA is also a part of the desire, I hope to create digital lighting, lighting, health care, construction management, crop planting and high order 5G wireless communication platform. (compile: LEDinside editor, Zhang Yahan)
