Using LED lighting to achieve long-term energy saving

The dramatic improvement in the performance of the solid state lighting industry has shown that LED is an alternative to existing lighting technologies, not in the future, but today. One of the key factors that drive people to adopt LED lighting technology is that it can save a lot of energy, as well as long-term reliability. According to the U.S. Department of energy (DOE) report, United States 22% of the electricity used for lighting, the output is equivalent to 1000 large power plants, the total value of the equivalent of $55 billion. DOE expects that in no more than 10 years, the efficiency of solid-state lighting will reach 150lm/W (LM / W), equivalent to the efficiency of incandescent lamp 10 ~ 12 times, compact fluorescent lamp of 2 times. If the efficiency of such calculations, assuming that 50% of the lighting fixtures for LED lighting can save the United States by the country's electricity consumption of 6% ~ 7% (a year to save $17 billion). When many people have no doubt that LED lighting can save energy for a long time, in fact, they do not think LED lighting can really save energy today. Of course, the initial purchase price of today's LED lighting lamps may be several times the number of traditional lighting, which limits the use of LED lighting. However, the first installation of the LED lighting shows that the expected energy-saving is true. Last fall, WAL-MART announced that it will use more than more than and 500 warehouses in the LED lighting system to replace existing systems in cold storage. Wal-Mart Store Inc 66% operating costs for the purchase of electricity, it is estimated that the use of LED lighting in cold storage will save $3 million 800 thousand a year. In February 2007, Gree and Raleigh, North Carolina, announced the joint launch of the test, installation, in order to promote the application of LED technology in a variety of conventional lighting. "LED city" (Ann Arbor and Toronto was subsequently added) started that have a "real laboratory" for the assessment of these city residents feel about LED lighting, and the impact on the economy and environment. The first LED city Raleigh project was implemented on December 2006 in a parking lot at the municipal building. CREE provides LED lighting fixtures and is provided by the lighting science group. Measurements by Raleigh, the leading electricity supplier in the city, suggest that the floors with LED lighting will consume at least 40% of the electricity consumed before the renovation. According to the results of the Mindware Research Institute, the parking lot of users believe that the garage lighting quality has been greatly improved, and people feel more secure. Cree has announced plans to transform its Durham headquarters and manufacturing facilities in North Carolina to LED lighting systems. After the completion of the first phase of the transformation, headquarters building parking ticket office, entrance road, pedestrian porch, and conference rooms are now 100% of the LED lighting. The sum of energy conservation, together with the reduced maintenance costs and scrap costs, as well as the improvement of the environment is a strong proof of the need for traditional lighting reform. The energy consumption before and after the reform of the lighting system shows that the energy consumed by the new lighting system is lower than that of the incandescent lamp, fluorescent lamp and high-pressure sodium lamp by 48% of the total energy consumption. When considering the use of LED lighting technology, brightness, cost and life is the first factor to be evaluated. Consideration on the energy efficiency has been increased for the first, this is because in the field of energy conservation, there are many research funded by the government, and the people to enhance the lighting efficiency consciousness, which is reflected in the development of standards and legislation of efficient light source demand. The fact that the traditional lighting has been transformed into LED lighting will save billions of dollars a year has prompted people to launch a number of government funded projects, such as the next generation lighting initiative and the twenty-first Century lighting project. These projects will be government agencies, industrial organizations, universities and laboratories together to accelerate the development and Realization of solid-state lighting. Now, LED lighting is only a matter of concern, but in the near future, they may become necessary. Around the world, many countries and regions are gradually realizing that the efficiency of the existing lighting technology is too low. Many government departments, such as the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia are usually in a certain period of the "incandescent ban" legislation, regulation, or the abolition of incandescent and halogen lamps in the form of response to lighting changes. People's awareness of these low efficiency light sources will help to increase the use of LED lighting, and the enforcement of the measurement standards than legislation to prohibit a technology will be better. The 24 standard of California is an excellent example of legislation. Usually, the 24 standard provides a set of mandatory rules that cover all aspects of the building structure. The 24 part of the standard residential lighting requirements in several parts of the home must use efficient lighting sources, including the kitchen and bathroom, but did not specify which technology should be used.
