Display market research firm DisplaySearch estimates that by 2015, global organic light emitting diode (OLED) output will reach $6 billion, the annual compound growth rate of 40% compared to the same period the overall display output compound growth rate of only 3%.
In OLED products, optimistic about the future development potential of active matrix OLED (AMOLED), is expected to AMOLED product output in the second half of this year, more than the passive matrix OLED (PMOLED) product output value.
Last year, the global OLED display output value of about $591 million, accounting for less than 1% of the global total flat panel display output value is expected by 2015, the proportion of OLED product output value of the overall flat panel display will be increased to 5%.
Even last year, the global economic performance is poor, but AMOLED output is still up 110% over the previous year, the performance is quite prominent.
In contrast, PMOLED product output is gradually declining, according to statistics, PMOLED's output value reached 450 million U.S. dollars in 2006, the peak value of output fell to $390 million in 2007, the output value in 2008 and then declined to $370 million.
The OLED display has many advantages, such as high luminous efficiency and more generally display more light, and the application of the advantages in the soft and transparent display screen display, if manufacturers can OLED technology combined with the touch screen, the market opportunity will be bigger.
However, OLED products have some shortcomings to be improved, such as high production costs, adverse mass production, as well as the continued maintenance of luminous efficiency, the size of the panel after the issue of the uniformity of light.
