A flexible tunable LED light source system developed for the study of plant photo biology at Nanjing Agricultural University

863 in the field of new materials "semiconductor lighting project" to support major projects, recently, the Agricultural College of Nanjing Agricultural University associate professor Xu Zhigang led the research team and the "semiconductor lighting source in the application of plant tissue culture research" (project number: 2006AA03A165) progress in plant special LED light source system, in China for the first time successfully developed for flexible LED light source system of plant photobiology, named LEDPlant, which has been successfully applied to the research team for 863 subject experiment research. LEDPlant is mainly composed of LED, plug-in universal substrate and drive and control unit, the main characteristics of different wavelength of LED can be inserted according to the experimental requirements in any combination and arrangement of the universal substrate, obtained the required light source of experimental design.

LEDPlant is used to study optical biology experiment of transgenic cotton seedling growth, especially the study of plant biology is a hot spot of light. The previous studies mainly rely on the fluorescent lamp and filter to obtain the required wavelength and optical density, which can not be accurately controlled, and can not be set arbitrarily according to the requirement of quantitative parameters. LEDPlant can be used to regulate the optical density, light wavelength (including the combination of various wavelengths), duty cycle (0-100%) and frequency (100-1000HZ), which is an effective tool and an ideal experimental equipment. The development of LEDPlant has filled the blank in this field. Therefore, in addition to the experimental study for the study group, LEDPlant in the field of optical biology will be more widely used.

At present, the first batch of experimental data of plant tissue culture seedling growth by LEDPlant has been obtained, and the second batch of experiments are in progress. With the continuous deepening of the accumulation of experimental data, we will be suitable for optimization of tissue culture and plant facilities plant lighting needs parameters and control technology, on this basis, will be developed, LED special plant tissue culture light source system and plant facilities special high efficiency LED light source system.
