Between Seoul, Nichia and SemiLEDs company patent disputes

Seoul maintains its "important" InGaN LED patent

Seoul semiconductor has announced that the company's production of indium gallium nitride (InCaN) - based LED or by blue, green, white or UV packaging, the product obtained only unique Seoul. These patents were awarded in December 1991 and include a U.S. patent number: 5075742.

The patent relates to the multilayer structure of semiconductor materials, some of which contain some solid inclusions. These inclusions have narrower band gap than the surrounding materials. This type of material structure is being used in the indium gallium nitride light-emitting layer.

The patent is the United States District Court (the United States District) to make decisions in eastern Texas. The lawsuit was filed by Seoul, against two leading LED display manufacturers, with Daktronics.

Seoul semiconductor said that the United States District Court agreed with their patents, and that the patent on InCaN based LED technology is necessary.
