LED Effects selection match Plath PSoC mixed signal array

Plath (Cypress Semiconductor Corp.) semiconductor company in Japan announced: programmable system on chip LED LED Effects lighting system supplier, the company has chosen Cypress (Programmable System-on-Chip PSoC) mixed signal array, for the next generation of products in the LED control.

PSoC device is a configurable mixed signal array, it will be a 8 bit microcontroller and embedded design common in many peripheral components together. It provides the advantages of ASIC, but there is no typical ASIC NRE or turnaround time. A single PSoC device can integrate up to 100 peripheral components and microcontrollers, thereby saving the customer's design time, reducing board space and power consumption, and the system costs dropped by 5 cents to $10.

Easy to use development tools enable designers to select configurable library elements to provide analog functions (such as ADC, DAC, amplifier, filter and digital comparator) and function (such as PWM, SPI, timer, counter and UART). The performance of PSoC is simulated by rail to rail input, programmable gain amplifier and ADC with a resolution of up to 14 bits, as well as ultra low noise, input leakage current and voltage imbalance. The PSoC device also includes a flash memory of up to 32KB, 2KB SRAM, a 8 x 8 multiplier with a 32 bit accumulator, a power supply and sleep monitoring circuit, and a hardware I2C communication circuit.

All PSoC devices are dynamically reconfigurable, allowing designers to create new system functions at will. Due to the ability to reconstruct the same silicon chip at different times for different functions, the designer can achieve more than 120% of silicon utilization in many cases. In the design of PSoC LIN bus in the same reference, digital components can be configured for 4 times, LIN to support different communication modes; thus, these components are occupied by PSoC hardware and PSoC MCU period were lower than 10%.

LED Effects the company's products can be integrated into a large array of dynamic lighting, by using image capture and animation technology to produce running lights, flow, rhythm, fast moving, color shift, light, flashing light effect, or a color projection subtitles. These systems are well suited for OEM lighting manufacturers, casinos, shopping malls, theaters, soccer fields, landscaping, space exploration, and unconstrained external and internal lighting solutions.

LED Effects President Kevin Furry said: "PSoC architecture allows us to streamline their design cycle and reduce the amount of components. For some of our projects that actually employ millions of LED, this translates into a substantial reduction in costs."
