LED lighting design will experience a "invisible" revolution

An event as the construction industry and lighting professionals should not be missed, Alingsas festival of lights (LIA) in the European lighting design community heard, not only the domestic high-end lighting manufacturers using a good opportunity to learn into the European designer concept, it is traditional OEM manufacturer ODM channel learning window transformation. In order to understand the light Alingsas Festival, reporters interviewed several times before the date of the official LIA should be invited to become one of the leaders of the project total Australia President LightPlan / Professional Lighting Designers Association (PLDA) director James Wallace mr..

James Wallace

Festival of lights

Reporter: last year you will participate in the festival of lights in Alingsas project design, can you talk about your greatest achievement?

James Wallace: in 2013 the Alingsas festival of lights (LIA), I am very happy to bring a lot of important changes in the project studio. LIA started, the project carried out very smoothly, but organizers want to encourage participants to try the new LED technology, is desperate for new technology of LED lighting, this is a challenge for us. In order to standardize the introduction of semiconductor LED technology, intelligent control and audio-visual operations, the entire project is almost complete and restart. In addition to the new LED technology, we created an additional working group responsible for arranging the LIA large-scale opening event, the theme was "Hans Christian Andersen".

Reporter: it is reported that this year's festival is a Norway musician Edward Grieg as the theme, you are expected to show what kind of lighting design results?

James Wallace: this year the fifteenth Alingsas festival of lights with "Edward Grieg" as the theme, I believe the 7 studio 7 by world renowned lighting designer TK their lead, and many of the participants in the studio, will create their own unique lighting narrative means, let the audience with the theme "Edward Grieg" resonate. I do not want to consider the theme of this year's new in order to be different, if an amazing adventure, is a combination of light and sound art, strong resonance Grieg can stimulate the works brought to light the individual lighting design concept deeply, full of ideas of potential.

European urban lighting

Reporter: as far as I know, you have a number of European cities on the status of lighting and lighting management conducted a detailed investigation and understanding, can share the experience and experience?

James Wallace: Although I am very familiar with European cities, but most of my experience in lighting design in the city center of Western australia. Each city in the world has its own unique story, topography, culture, folk rules, I like to create a sense of "regional" through my design work, a sense of contact with the local people. For example, the Great Australian city southwest of downtown Perth "Fowler, provincial reconstruction project, the local story tells us that in the past there was a river in there, Aboriginal take it as a source of water, however, with the growing development of the early city, the river finally dried up. In the preparation of the overall planning of lighting, I put forward the idea of rebuilding the memory of the river. I'm glad my idea was finally adopted. The interactive fountain, built in the Fowler square, including the poems written by the natives, is embedded in the granite road. And there is a dynamic component in the focus of the lighting device, which can visualize the local narrative, while responding to the theme of public holidays, annual festivals and anniversaries. As far as I can see, the central lighting systems in many big cities are not enough. Don't say the lights of the city lighting management familiar with the tangible and intangible value, just one person to go out at night, can see a lot of lighting equipment or no lights, or neglect, or from the wrong angle of illumination, lighting, installation is not perfect. City managers should have a more adequate budget to ensure adequate human resources and equipment purchases to ensure the correct installation and maintenance of the lighting system. This practice may be invited by the lighting designer to assist.

Reporter: in lighting design, compared with European countries, China's lighting industry what are the gaps? What do you think the European countries have to learn from?

James Wallace: I think of a joke, many years ago, in Australia, a senior architect, he said, would rather spend more time and interest to choose furniture rather than lamps. I have been to China many times, especially in the last three years. I have my own idea about the gap between China and the west, the gap is real, but not only in China or Chinese culture and European countries. In my opinion, this gap is the gap in the development of the timeline. Broadly speaking, I think the idea of lighting in the West 40 years ago is the same as the Chinese people now think about lighting. Many Europeans are not aware of this, or even realize that they are not willing to admit it. China's lighting design professional has gradually been recognized and mature. CLDA (Chinese Lighting Designers Association) recently created, has been through educational programs and activities to help China local lighting designers understand lighting, their professional level, qualification, experience is gradually increased, will slowly from the potential customers and the public that get the respect and recognition. I hope this gap is getting smaller and smaller.

Reporter: as the soul of lighting design, light is the most important, how do you understand the light? What do you think of the good lighting effect?

James Wallace: one time, I was working with clients on a newly completed interior lighting design project. Finally, the customer said to me, this lighting design is the kind of effect he wanted. There's nothing better than that. Lighting design is people-oriented. When the lighting design people-oriented, the light itself is a beautiful state, will let you feel the soul of the entire design.

The future development trend of lighting industry

Reporter: how do you see the future development trend of lighting design industry?

James Wallace:LED semiconductor technology (SSL), the rapid development of intelligent control, lighting integration, management systems, robot lighting, etc., are already well known. I am interested in exploring these areas. The development trend in the future, in my opinion, in the near future will usher in changes of extraordinary significance, the quantity and quality of light directly with the health and longevity of our daily life, good life, a lot of research evidence also supports this industry more and more will respond to this kind of change. Once this relatively fresh view has become a consensus, and is generally accepted by the professional level, I expect the development process of the LED, the global lighting industry will experience an invisible revolution.
