NEC and Samsung have joined simplifying storage inspection and testing organization

In March 13, 2006, as the industry's first inspection and testing organizations committed to simplifying the system level storage devices, the PISMO Advisory Committee announced yesterday, two of the largest semiconductor supplier -- NEC electronics and Samsung Electronics joined the organization. The Spansion and ARM company established in 2004, currently has 13 member companies of the group is committed to a unified board level interface standard, allows the designer to test, testing a variety of storage devices from different manufacturers can conveniently provide a development platform.

Spansion, one of the world's largest suppliers of flash memory, and ARM, the leading processor IP, jointly established the organization to reduce the cost and complexity of system design. In order to address the challenges faced by the customer in the system level design, members of the organization work together to develop a standard platform to simplify the inspection process of storage logic. The rapid development of wireless and embedded products market requires people to log compatibility testing of new processors, hundreds of chipset and memory. If there is no standard interface, the system designer must develop different boards for different devices to ensure compatibility. PISMO standard is designed to solve this problem.

"We believe that adding the two large storage equipment suppliers will help us achieve our goal: to develop a unified board level interface standard, PISMO Advisory Committee Chairman Fasil Bekele said," by this standard, system designers can focus on developing innovative products, rather than proprietary research the solution."

Members of the PISMO Advisory Committee will provide support for the development of the standard, and have the right to vote on the improvement and revision of standards. They will also learn the details of PISMO standards and access to design information. Any company engaged in semiconductor or systems development business can participate in the organization.

PISMO Advisory Committee status

The PISMO Committee has issued the first standard version of a standard interface for a static RAM (SRAM) bus. It also plans to release the PISMO version 2 later this year, in order to be compatible with a variety of storage bus standard, such as synchronous DRAM (SDRAM); double data rate (DDR); NAND; MirrorBit ORNAND; SPI; electronic hard disk and OneNAND.

PISMO Advisory Committee

The PISMO Advisory Committee, which was formed by Spansion and ARM, is the industry's first dedicated to simplifying the testing and testing of system level storage devices. The PISMO interface standard defines the packaging and electrical characteristics of a small memory module. The PISMO module not only can be stacked, and can support a variety of development tools. These tools allow users to easily access the signal information for in-depth system analysis. These and other features make the PISMO memory module well suited for testing and prototype verification of storage devices and multiple host controllers.

PISMO Advisory Committee members include ARM, Analog Devices, Broadcom, Cypress, M, Micron, NanoAmp Solutions, NEC Electronics, Samsung, SMedia, Spansion, Spreadtrum and Toshiba Systems.
