New LED backlight technology to improve notebook size

DigiTimes said the new LED backlight technology will be gradually warming up (cost reduction), next year will be more and more 12 inch and 14 inch notebook configuration of this technology. LED backlight technology can actually reduce the thickness of the notebook screen, but because of its high cost, and ultimately there is little notebook using this technology.

Compared to the traditional CCFLS (cold cathode fluorescent lamp, cold cathode fluorescent lamps), LED backlight has more advantages: such as to provide longer service life and lower power consumption, and its design does not contain mercury makes it easier to eventually comply with EU RoHS standard.

However, LED backlight technology also has its disadvantages, it is unable to adapt in the large size of the LCD screen, such as a 12 inch Laptop LCD screen requires approximately 45 LED light source is sufficient, and a 32 inch LCD display needs 2400 LED light sources.
