Osram will focus on efforts to build a general solid-state lighting OLED

Germany OSRAM (Osram GmbH) said recently that its development work will focus on OLED, is this technology for general lighting. Osram is one of the world's largest manufacturers of lighting equipment, so there is a particular interest in the shift from incandescent to solid state lighting. Osram said that the company expanded its activities in the field of technology, will expand the OLED display business.

According to the plan, its research and development work has been concentrated in the Osram Opto Semiconductors internal GmbH. Osram said it will continue to develop a polymer based solution for the display, but also committed to small molecule technology for lighting applications.

Osram believes that its focus is suitable for indoor lighting white OLED. The preliminary results show that the luminous efficiency of white OLED unit can reach up to 25 lumens per watt under proper current. Even at the same level of brightness as the general lighting applications, these OLED units have a luminous efficiency of up to 18 lumens per watt, ahead of the traditional light bulb (12 lumens) and almost comparable to halogen lamps.
