SHARP 8 generation LCD plant started operating in October 2006

Japan's Sharp Co has started the construction of its new eighth generation LCD factory, the new plant is located in Kameyama. The plant was originally announced in January 2005 and is expected to begin operations in October 2006.

The plant will produce eighth generation glass substrate, the size is 2160 * 2400 mm, is currently the largest size of substrate industry. Factory investment of about $1 billion 400 million, the initial production capacity of 15000. A base plate can be cut out of 8 40 inch panels or 6 inches of 50 panels.

Kameyama factory is located in Mie Prefecture, the Sharp Co said that the anti structure design of 7 earthquake has a panel factory. In Japan, due to frequent earthquakes, semiconductor or LCD factories need to implement a mandatory seismic design.
