SONY announced the cessation of production and sale of OLED TV in Japan

SONY's decision to stop selling OLED TVs in Japan because of weak demand.

SONY will stop producing and selling in Japan the price of 2500 U.S. dollars in the 11 inch XEL-1 OLED tv. However, SONY said it would continue to invest in other countries to produce and develop this kind of tv.

The world's first OLED TV was introduced three years ago and has been praised for its bright colors and clear images. The TV set with a OLED display is thinner and more energy efficient than a LED or a plasma tv. However, XEL-1's small display and high price actually make this product will never win a large market share among ordinary consumers.

OLED display has been used in mobile phones and other small screen mobile devices. However, the production of OLED TV sets is difficult and expensive, especially for large size tvs. Although SONY had promised to produce 27 inch OLED TV, however, this product has never appeared. The Wall Street Journal reported in August last year, SONY's poor financial situation may indicate that SONY will stop the production of future OLED tv.

Samsung and LG and other vendors at the trade show also shows the OLED tv. However, like SONY, these companies are faced with the problem of mass production of such TV sets. As a result, no one has announced the actual product launch to the market.

SONY's exit from OLED technology may end the life of the OLED TV, at least for now, as manufacturers are looking for other low-cost technologies such as 3D TV and LED backlight LCD tv.
