Semtech white LED charge pump is suitable for mobile phone, PD and digital camera

Semtech recently announced the introduction of a white light LED constant current charge pump SC618, the device provides innovative protection features, suitable for cellular phones, PDA and digital camera flash applications. According to reports, SC618 is the company's next generation of charge pump IC, which is designed to drive and protect the flash applications in high current LED. Using only one set resistor can be the device set to two working modes: flash mode: in a very short period of time, to provide the highest 700mA high strength burst current driving capability for LED flash; spotlight (flashlight) mode: provides lower current, the specific number of uncertain value. The current in the spotlight mode is set to 40% of the flash mode current, allowing the LED to be kept for longer periods of time while the battery consumption is small.

The SC618 provides an innovative design for timing cutting off the flash output current, so as to prevent damage to the load due to improper operation. After flashing one second, the SC618 cut off (disable) the output current to protect the system from delays in executing or missing instructions for software errors or system failures. The timing function is a part of the integrated protection function set, and other protection functions include input overvoltage protection, output overvoltage protection, over temperature protection, short circuit protection and soft start function.

The SC618 has a constant current regulation capability with a minimum and maximum current variation of only 8% over the entire input voltage and temperature, thereby providing a stable light source for high quality photos. In flash mode, the device can output 700mA current up to 350ms or 500mA current up to 500ms, with a full current adjustment during the entire flash period.
